Pearls should be stored away from other objects or jewelry that may scratch their surfaces.
Do not wear the pearls when bathing, swimming. Sweat must be cleaned thoroughly by soft cloth.

Wrap the pearls in soft cloth or place in a soft pouch. Do NOT store pearls in an airtight package such as a plastic bag.

One quick & simple way is to check their temperature.
Real pearls are typically cooler to the touch and will adjust in temperature while worn. “Synthetic pearls typically stay at one temperature.”

This is the simplest way to assess the quality of pearls. A high luster pearl will reflect image almost like a mirror whereas a low luster pearl will look dull.

Natural pearls grow in the wild without human intervention. They are very rare, and most natural pearls in the market today are antique.
Cultured pearls are grown in pearl farms, and are the direct result of human intervention.

The A-AAA system evaluates pearls according to Surface Quality, Luster, and perfection of Shape (roundness and symmetry).

There are  four types of pearls currently available on the market. The common names with which they are identified are:  Akoya pearls, fresh water pearls or Fresh Water, Tahitian pearls and pearls from the South Pacific or South Sea seas.
